Episode 02 - The Gavotte's Grim Future
Japanese Title: Zento tanan na GAVOTTE
Based On: Volume /Chapter (will update when I get the manga)
Airdate: October 8, 2006
Summary: [Written by Hanabi] Picking up from the first episode, the three girls who demanded that Kahoko perform for them continue to pester her, and the moment Kahoko plays a note on her magic violin, a scratchy unpleasant sound emitted, causing the girls to be offended. Kahoko, confused as to why the music hadn't exactly been what she'd been expecting, wonders to herself that the fairy had said that anyone could play the magic violin!

But at that moment, a voice interrupts. Kahoko sees the two boys she'd met earlier, and Yunoki, one of the two, indirectly accuses the girls for causing trouble for Kahoko because she was a regular student. Soon enough, another girl interrupts them - Nami Amou, from the newspaper club. She sets the date for an official performance, and the trio quickly agrees. Thus, they excuse themselves, respectfully bowing to Yunoki.

Nami quickly takes this chance to ask Kahoko for an interview, but Kahoko responds awkwardly that she has somewhere to go, and escapes. The scene shifts to show Kahoko headed for the practice room in which she was presented her magic violin. She stops short however, remembering that Len was using the practice room. Thus, she decides to check things out from the backyard. She ends up tripping over a set of legs as she was heading around.

Looking up, she sees a boy sleeping- his blue tie indicated that he was a first year music student. Kahoko shakes his shoulder to wake him up and asks him why he's sleeping in such a place, warning him that he'll catch a cold! The boy slowly responds that he's not sure, and thanks her for her concern. As he leaves, Kahoko wonders if he'll be okay, but before she can dwell on that, she hears some faint music. Walking towards the source, she stands outside the open window and listens peacefully.

When the song ends, Len, practicing his music notices Kahoko, and demands to know what she's doing, standing out there. Kahoko begins to compliment Len, asking him what song he'd just been playing, and how good he was at playing the violin. Len, in response, states that she shouldn't talk so lightly about those things, but Kahoko insists that she was being genuine, and surprises Len with her utter honestly. Afterwards, Kahoko finds herself on the roof, and plays the same song as Len earlier from memory- minus the scratchy sounds.

After a moment of amazement at her successful, that pesky fairy shows up, complimenting Kahoko on her performance, and asking if it was Schubert's Ave Maria that she had just been playing. She replies that she'd simply heard someone play the piece earlier, but the violin had made a strange sound earlier. Lili, the fairy, replies that even though it is a magic violin, it's the equivalent of training wheels on a bicycle. He explains that the thing that makes the violin play is Kahoko's heart, and tells her to try her best in the concours. She feels unsure, because it's unfair that she's using a magic violin, but Lili tells her a heart-felt story about his promise to the founder of the school. Kahoko promises that she'll participate, and Lili, with a mischievous grin, declares that he definitely heard her say that, and leaves her with a pile of music.

As Kahoko retreats down the stairs, she runs into Len, who tells her that as rival violinists, they have nothing to talk about. But mentally adds, "Skill-wise, at least..."

The PA system announces that all concours participants are to report to the faculty lounge, and after a run-in with the trio of girls from earlier, who describe to Kahoko about Azumafs great legacy, the concours participants file into the lounge and introduce themselves to each other. Kanazawa-sensei explains how the concours's will be set up, and how things will run.

Afterwards, Kahoko runs into Ryoutarou, who compliments her on making it into the concours even though she's just a regular student. Kahoko tells him that she's an amateur, but quickly covers it up by saying she's an amateur as in, participating in concours. Ryoutarou tells her that if there's anything she needs to talk about, she should just ask him. Later, she begins to practice Gavotte, and decides that she needs to practice more, ending up spending lots of time practicing Gavotte.

One day, on the roof, she meets Kazuki, the trumpet player, who plays Gavotte for her. Kahoko is amazed at how playful the tune is compared to her music. Kazuki tells her that Kahoko just has to enjoy herself more, but quickly adds that he's just being honest with his feelings. Kahoko giggles at Kazuki's antics, and thanks him.

Soon, she is standing at the grounds of her performance for the trio of girls, Nami Amou, and Shoko. As she begins to perform, she is truly enjoying herself, and causes one of the girls to become nervous. But when Kahoko notices that there are a lot of people watching her, she becomes nervous, and makes a mistake, causing the performance to stop in its tracks!
