La Corda D'Oro Games

Basics: This series first originated as a PC game before a PS2 and PSP versions were released. The game was created by Koei and is a part of their Neoromance series, which are a collection of games that are dating simulation (dating sim for short; aka ren-ai) games for girls. There are only three games in this collection officially, including La Corda D'Oro thus far. The other two being Harukanaru Toki no Naka de and Angelique.

La Corda D'Oro

Release Date(s): N/A (if someone knows the dates of the original and re-release dates, please contact me.)
Price: Current: 3800 yen
Platform/System: Windows
Summary of Game: This was the first La Corda game to be released for the PC. It takes place through the spring and summer months of the school year.

The main character, who you play, is a student in the Regular Department, but because you saw a fata on the school grounds, you'll be signed up to particpate in the concours. With the other contestants, you slowly develop feelings of romance (which increase your intimacy with the character that you're aiming for) as well as a rivalry while you're working vigilantly in the concours.

The concours itself is split into four parts or selections, which during each period of time that you have before each selection, you'll have to go around the school to find menuscripts and explainations of each piece, as well as practicing it before each round. Also during this time, you can practice a piece in front of the character that you're aiming for.

In each selection, you're ranked depending on how well you've practiced the piece (both the actual practice of the piece and of the menuscript) and how well it relates to the theme of the current slection. The higher your ranking throughout the four selections of the concours, the higher the rivalry is with the other contestants, as well as their attraction to you.
Characters that can be won: Len Tsukimori, Ryoutarou Tsuchiura, Keiichi Shimizu, Kazuki Hihara, Azuma Yunoki, Hiroto Kanazawa, Shinobu Ousaki, Shoko Fuyuumi, and Nami Amou
My thoughts on the game (if any): It's a good intro into the series, though it does lack things that the PS2 version contains, like fewer voiceovers on the dialouge and also have fewer events.

Release Date(s): March 18, 2004; Re-released: March 30, 2006
Price: 2800 yen
Platform/System: PS2
Summary of Game: It's pretty much the same as the original version, but is quite improved. There are more events, bonus items that can be recieved by the end of the game, and animation sequences for additional endings.
Characters that can be won: Len Tsukimori, Ryoutarou Tsuchiura, Keiichi Shimizu, Kazuki Hihara, Azuma Yunoki, Hiroto Kanazawa, Shinobu Ousaki, Shoko Fuyuumi, and Nami Amou
My thoughts on the game (if any): Because it is the improved version of the game, it's definitely the version to play if you have a Japanese PS2 or modified US PS2. I might play this version if I get the chance to since I do have a Japanese PS2, but I don't know if I will as I kinda struggled through the PC game (which I DO need to re-play in the future. XP)

Release Date(s): November 10, 2005; Re-released: November 9, 2006
Price: Current: 2800 yen
Platform/System: PSP
Summary of Game: It's the other version that came after the PC and PS2 versions. This one has something that the other two don't have, which would be the mini games with Lili and how there are also events that occur after the concours that don't appear in the other two.
Characters that can be won: Len Tsukimori, Ryoutarou Tsuchiura, Keiichi Shimizu, Kazuki Hihara, Azuma Yunoki, Hiroto Kanazawa, Shinobu Ousaki, Shoko Fuyuumi, and Nami Amou
My thoughts on the game (if any): I haven't played this version and I highly doubt that I'll ever play it as I don't have a PSP, but on another note: if you have played or own the other two versions, this one is pretty much the same, though the various character events could keep your attention anyway.

La Corda D'Oro 2

Release Date(s): March 15, 2007; Re-released: N/A
Price: Current: 6800 yen (normal), 8800 yen (premium box)
Platform/System: PS2
Summary of Game: This game is the sequel the first one and starts right off where the first one left off as it takes place during the fall and winter months. Unlike the first game, where you competed against the other characters throughout the four selections of the concours, you will now play ensambles with them -- this time around. There are four concerts throughout the game and with each one, you'll have to perform 1 or more songs at each concert. Because of that, you'll have to be able to get along with the rest of the characters that are in your ensamble group. (more to add, maybe... as all of it IS by memory. XP Once I get home, I'll be able to perhaps correct add stuff to this.)
Characters that can be won: Len Tsukimori, Ryoutarou Tsuchiura, Keiichi Shimizu, Kazuki Hihara, Azuma Yunoki, Aoi Kaji, Hiroto Kanazawa, Shinobu Ousaki, and Shoko Fuyuumi
My thoughts on the game (if any): I actually found this game to be easier than the first, probably since you don't have to look for the music pieces from the fatas and you just buy them in Lili's shop for one thing. I also liked it more because of that.
